Biography

Anthony Boswell was born in the Midlands, UK, in 1965 and spent most of his early years exploring drawing that often related to pattern and experiment. During his years at University on his degree programme, Anthony's ideas explored aspects of direct drawing from life with both the nude and the urban environment where his ideas ran through interests in Surrealism, the practical work being executed through drawing, painting, photography and montage.

Over the following years, Anthony taught drawing courses for three years based upon a programme designed around his own format. Since 1997, he has made a point of working solely on his own work with occasional sales to corporate clients and exhibitions. Being an artist who has worked mostly in isolation in his own studio, he has taken time to read and keep up with the contemporary art world.

At present, the underlying interests have allowed Anthony to explore his way into a form of painting that shows his overwhelming belief in modernism, especially the work coming out of St. Ives during the modernist heyday, but by a method of working so his ideas are not a pastiche of the past, but original and sincere. He continues to live and work in the Midlands with his partner Linda.
